Law 11 - Offsides Rule:

This video is a breakdown of the offsides rule provided by the ultimate authority, FIFA.

Video Analysis:

This video shows (1) how backs should position themselves in order to possess the ball and to build an attack until a wing is found (2) how an effective outside back gets involved in the offense (3) some examples of how a flat line will be beat if not careful (4) some times when being in an offside position does not make an offence.

Trivia question:

In regulation play, can the penalty shooter touch the ball a second time if the ball rebounds off the goal without touching anyone else?

Answer (click and drag to highlight hidden text):

A penalty shooter may not take a second shot if the ball bounces directly to her without being touched by another player.

From the official FIFA rules of the game:

LAW 14 – THE PENALTY KICK

Procedure
• the player taking the penalty kicks the ball forward
• he does not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player
• the ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward

Trivia question:

What is wrong with the caption on this photo?

Answer (click and drag to highlight hidden text):

Even though it is not touching the line, the ball is not completely behind the line. In a game it would still be in play and not a goal. The entire ball has to pass beyond the vertical plane of the line for it to be off the field of play.
